The property to the immediate south of the Koloa Neighborhood Center, which is bounded at the corner of Weliweli Road and Waikomo Road, is currently up for development consideration at the Planning Commission (Koloa Creekside Estates, L.P- Use Permit U-2007-20; Class IV Zoning Permit Z-IV-2007-25 ; Tax Map Key 2-8-09:1 ; Land Area 9.384 Acres).
A portion of the property is zoned ST-P (Special Treatment –Public) and was done so in connection with Ordinance PM-91-82 which stated “As recommended by the Koloa-Poipu-Kalaheo Development Plan, an area adjacent to the Koloa Neighborhood Center shall be General Planned “Public” and zoned R-4/ST-P for the future expansion of the Neighborhood Center”.
The Koloa Community Association is of the opinion that future expansion of the Koloa Neighborhood Center would be necessary if it is the County’s intent to keep the center in it’s present location, especially since it will be necessary to accommodate the future population growth which will be the result of the addition of almost 4,000 units to the Koloa-Poipu region when the approved developments are built out.
